Slideshows, slideshows, and MORE slideshows!

Here are some great websites you could use to incorporate your students' learning and progress into one big presentation.

http://www.slide.com/
You can upload your own pictures and personalize it with different graphics…moves from one slide to another from left to right…smoother than PowerPoint. Can add images from FaceBook, MySpace and other social websites. Free to join--no fee.
http://www.slideshare.net/
Upload powerpoints to share with others. Supports ppt, pps & pot (PowerPoint), pdf, odp (OpenOffice); Keynote users can save as pdf, doc, rtf, xls (MSOffice), odt & ods (OpenOffice) & pdf. This is also a fee-free website.
http://www.sliderocket.com
Upload your slides, keynote or PowerPoint and video. Publish to any webpage. There are two programs for use...Sliderocket Lite is a free program that offers 250 MB of storage and 15 MB of file size. For $24.00 a month you can get more storage and additional features through a program called SlideRocket Pro. For what we would be doing in a class, SlideRocket Lite would be sufficient.
http://photobucket.com/
Upload all your photos, videos, and images for free. Make photo slide shows to share pics with friends. A fee-free website.
http://yodio.com/
Add your voice to your photos or presentations, and share these narrated photos with your friends and colleagues. Create from your phone or computer and embed into any website Thjis website requires you to use a phone to make voice recordings. Per the information on the webpage, this program seems more geared towards business people and not towards educators, even though this is a free website.
http://www.authorstream.com
Present and share powerpoints. Port directly to YouTube. Start a meeting online, invite contacts to discuss live. Embed into any website, blog or share by email. Create your own channel to showcase your presentation. This is a free program that allows you to upload 50 powerpoint presentations. Based on what I saw, this is not a site I would recommend for use in the classroom.
http://www.slideboom.com
Share powerpoint presentations online. Play as movie with audio and links. This program offers two options...a free one with basic services and a pay-for-service that has more functions. This is a program geared towards businesses and not appropriate for educators.
http://www.photoshow.com/home/start
Turn your photos into a musical PhotoShow in just minutes. This is a program that is geared to show off pictures. Not appropriate for a classroom unless you are working on a slideshow for a graduation ceremony.
http://www.vuvox.com
Produce dynamic interactive panoramas with hot-spots. This is a free media creation program but I don't see where it would be used in the classroom successfully.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/photostory/default.mspx
Free download for Windows. Create slideshows using your digital photos. Touch-up, crop, or rotate pictures. Add stunning special effects, soundtracks, and your own voice narration to your photo stories. Personalize them with titles and captions. Another website using digital photos to display. Not recommended for the classroom.
http://www.slideroll.com/
Create slide shows with your photos. Publish your slideshows on the internet, and e-mail them to friends. Free website but I am not sure how it would apply to a classroom.
http://slideoo.com/
Make rolling slideshows from your Flickr photostream and sets in seconds. To use this website you must have access to Flicker which only uses pictures.
http://flickrslidr.com/
Easily embed the classic flickr slideshows on your website or blog. All you need to do is enter the flickr URL address of the user, photo set or group you would like to embed along with some options. You'll receive the HTML embed code in return. Used in conjunction with Slideoo.com.
http://www.picturetrail.com/
Biggest slideshow selection on the web. Post them to any webpage. Also photo sharing and image hosting. Uses digital pictures. Not appropriate for the classroom.
http://www.smilebox.com/
Choose your design. Add photos, videos, words, music. Email, blog or print it. This website allows you to make invitations and the like. Not appropriate for the classroom.
http://photopeach.com/
Make a slideshow with moving photos like a video with your choice of background music, captions on each photo, fun effects, and more. Free program that uses digital pictures. Not appropriate for the classsroom.
http://www.photosnack.com/
Upload photos, create great photo slideshows, and share them with your friends and family. Manage your photos online, share your photo albums. Lots of stylish templates and themes. Digital photos used to make slideshows. Not appropriate for the classroom.
http://www.kizoa.com/
Create slideshows and edit photos with fun effects, animations, music and more! Share your creations on the Internet or burn them to DVD. Another digital photo program and it's free but I don't see how it could be used in the classroom.

Let's Put It To Use!

A good example of one of these websites put into use would be, for example, if a class took a field trip to the science museum. Let's say the students took turns with a digital camera the whole day. To record the pictures and interesting things they saw, the best website to use would be Slideroll.com. This website not only allows you to put the photos together into a slide show, but you can also upload the show onto a webpage. You would upload them onto your class webpage for all the parents to see. This is a great way to show families and students that their progress and work means a lot to you. It also shows that the field trip you took was worthwhile and educational for the students!

Conclusion

Based on what I saw, I would use either PowerPoint or Slide.com as my main programs to create slideshows. Sliderocket is very useful if you are willing to publish your powerpoint on the internet for your students to see. This would be great if you want to go paperless and would like to make sure all of your students have access to it without excuse. The rest of these websites use digital pictures and I think their use would have to be project specific, where as PowerPoint and Slide.com have day-to-day use. Looking forward to everyone's comments...
